A Prayer Glossary

Prayer Spirit - A spirit that is in continuous prayer. A spirit that abides in an atmosphere of God centered thoughts, is filled with prayer. A spirit that soaked and permeated with prayer. A spirit that saturated in prayer activity. A spirit that stays in communion with God.

Prayer Posture - Taking a posture or position that is respectful yet comfortable and maintaining it; does not let bodily problems, discomforts, etc. distract it from prayer. The key is to adopt a bodily position or posture that shows reverence for God yet is comfortable enough to allow you to remain in that position for a long time. Prayer needs to be profound and for an extended time period.

Prayer Writing - Means taking time, after prayer, especially when illuminations are very insightful, or spiritual discernments are received. These insights are gifts from God we need to cherish and retain them. Show gratitude for them by writing them down. Writing down some of the spiritual insights, and spiritual experience is what might be called prayer writing. The written word remains and weeks or months later we can see what insights God gave us.

Prayer Practice - Practice praying means we start and not stop every few days. There is a real necessity for continuity; perseverance, consistency and faithfulness to the Lord in practicing prayer, daily - one hour minimum [ORA UNA HORA]. Practicing prayer means making sincere effort to pray daily whether we seem to be gaining great spiritual benefit or not. It’s great when we find ore prayer very enjoyable. When it becomes burdensome and seemingly without fruit, we tend to want to stop praying.

Prayer Place - The place where you retreat to everyday, or more than once a day, to pray. We need a regular place to go where it is absolutely quiet and we interruptions, no distractions.

Prayer Words - Spiritual or faith words taken from the Bible that are the focus of our prayer. We center our prayer on a specific holy word and repeat it over and over very slowly. The intent is to enter into deep prayer. By selecting such holy words (indeed words that involve the reality of the word) as Father, Jesus, Glory, Mercy, Honor, Holy Spirit or such phrases as mercy Lord; Holy Spirit come; Glory to you O Lord, Father we love you. These words or phrases are repeated very slowly for a long period of time. The intent is to progress to, and to achieve a deeper level of prayer and union with God. As one reaches a more deep prayer, the words can be left and focus be placed completely on uniting to God in Prayer.
