The Lesson

Then Jesus took his disciples up the mountain and gathering them around him, he taught them saying:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,

Blessed are the meek,

Blessed are they that mourn,

Blessed are the merciful,

Blessed are those who thirst for justice,

Blessed are you when you suffer,

Be glad and rejoice for your reward is great in heaven.

Then Simon Peter asked Jesus,

“Do we have to write this down?”

And Andrew asked him,

“Are we supposed to know this?”

And James questioned him,

“Will we have a test on this?”

Then Phillip said,

“I don’t have any paper to write it down on.”

Then Bartholomew asked,

“Do we have to turn this in?”

Then John complained,

“The other disciples did not have to learn this.”

Then Matthew interrupted with,

“Can I go to the boys’ room?”

And then Judas proclaimed loudly,

“What does this have to do with real life?”

Then one of the Pharisees walking by asked to see Jesus’ lesson plan and inquired of Jesus,

Where is your anticipatory set? Where are your objectives in the cognitive domain?

Jesus simply walked away. When alone, he began to pray to his Father for his disciples and the Pharisee.
