Bible’s Greatest Message

A very large gathering of the most renowned theologians convened at a major assembly. Very substantive and complex theological issues were debated.

Nearing the end of the long convocation the most eminent theologian, after his speech, opened the floor to questions. Someone asked him what he thought from all his extensive and lengthy study of scripture, what perhaps was the most profound truth in the scripture. He paused for a moment and then said, in my belief the most profound and insightful truth ever discovered in the scripture is in reading scripture from beginning to end, which has been captured in a very familiar way and put to song.

“O Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me for the bible tells me so.”

The audience grew silent and erupted into a discussion- How could this be? He persisted- O Jesus loves me, O Jesus Loves me, O Jesus loves me, The bible tells me so.

Many were still unconvinced. Then he said many miss heaven by eighteen inches- the truths are in their heads but not in their hearts. He went on to say what many would have wanted to agree with. He said it in one sentence. The secret, the great, profound and life changing, heart changing, mind changing secret the Saints all had. They truly, truly understood and completely accepted and trusted in the reality that Jesus truly loved them.

That love is individual, personal, complete and overwhelming.
